Surfing at d internet cafe is dangerous cuz "yahoo boys" will steal your password and do some "financial damage". If u have to go to an internet cafe, take your laptop. It is more expensive N200 an hour at Ajah than others.
Surfing at d internet cafe can be very slow. I think they purposely make their system slow, so that, u can pay for an extra hour.

I don't know about Glo, Etisalat and Visafone. But they are al in d N5000 range.

Pay school fees a term in advance and not a year in advance
Hi Friend,
You have just relocated to Nigeria and everything is new and you are excited about everything.
Please, don’t make the mistake of paying for your children’s school fees a year in advance. Try to pay a term in advance.
Why?
The school will promise you that, there will do this, they will do that. Let me tell you, it will take a long time for the promises to happen. For instance, if you ask them, where is your school library? They answer, we are just buying the books for the library. The books will be in the library by the time, your children start school this term.
Pure lies! Majority of them don’t.
You will have a LOT TO COMPLAIN about in their first term in school. Just make up your mind and tell yourself, the good reasons you choose the school in the first place. If you are married, you know what I am talking about. If problems start in your marriage, just remember, why you choose to marry your spouse out of the millions of women and men in the world.
Please, pay school fees a term in advance. If you are satisfied after one year. Then, you can pay yearly and forget about it.
This will make your transition time in Nigeria a stress free one!

If you are coming from the UK or USA, you will understand that, free children school are run like Nigerian’s private schools.
I have come to realise that, there is a lot of hype on children’s education in Nigeria. A lot of Proprietor/ess start schools to make money and some of them don’t care about you or your children. It is a money making venture or business for them.
So, what some of them do is to go to Britain and employ an Oyinbo or whiteman or woman. Put them as Headmaster of their school and then, charge the parent “excessive” school fees.
It is unacceptable. I work hard for my money. Some of these expensive schools charge between 500,000 naira to 2 Million Naira per year. For What?
Yes. They are some quality schools in Lagos. I have to say that. But, most of them are hyped.
My advice is to go around your neighbourhood or where you live. Gear yourself up. You will see the good, the bad and the ugly.
Arm yourself with questions to ask and ask them.
You will find some good schools in your area.
Most importantly, speak to the owner and ask what educational qualifications they have and their plans for the school.
My children go to a school near us. Why? The fees are reasonable. It is near to home, so no school bus palaver or problems. They can wake up at a reasonable time in the morning. Academically, the school is great. I have seen improvements in my children’s school work. They have weaknesses in their facilities. But, who cares? What I care about is their education. Also, it is a Christian school. I forgot to add that, my children are picking up Yoruba songs far and they are learning about Nigerian culture.

In the UK or USA, you don’t have to buy textbooks for your children’s school. But, in Nigeria, you will have to pay extra money or naira for their school textbooks.
Remember, the good old days, when your parents asked you to go and buy your school textbooks. It is still happening.
I was surprised to find that, after paying lots of naira for our children’s private school, we still have to buy textbooks.
Anyway, this is about saving you money. So, don’t buy from your children’s school unless you have money to waste. They make over 100% to 200% profit from the school textbooks.
You will save money by buying at CMS (Kakawa Street). I buy from Hope Lawal BookStand (not a bookshop o!). sometimes, I go to Ojuelegba and buy from Abikoye Bookshop.
If you have more than 2 children, you will be saving a lot of money.

Rules when going to the market in Lagos Nigeria
Hi Friend,
You are now in Nigeria and everyone on the street on Lagos seem to recognise that, this person is “se se de” or “journey just come” or “ara ilu oyingbo”. They terms mean, someone who has just returned from abroad or diaspora.
But, you keep saying to yourself, how do they know?
Your looks.
Your skin.
Your clothes.
Your English.
You are asking too many questions because you don’t have a clue.
They know. So, they will rip you off and overcharge you at the market.
Even if you send your small cousin, niece or house help or driver to the market for you, they will rip you off too. It is the Nigerian way of life. You just have to get used to it.
Rule 1 – Be willing to invest at least 1 month of your time and know the prices in Lagos. In this one month, take your notepad, pen and go to every market that, you can think of. Eg yaba, Ojuelegba, Oshodi, Mile 12, your local markets, etc.
You are not buying anything, you are doing an extensive research. Write the prices in your notepad.
For instance, go to 4 sellers and price the same thing.
Rule 2 - Remember to haggle, or “price it” or “na oja” or “price the market”.
Rule 3 - When at the market, speak in Yoruba or Pidgin English. Don’t speak, proper English. They will charge three times the price.
For instance, you say, “How much is Expression Hair?”
The seller will look at you from head to toe and quickly figure out how much she will charge you.
Seller replies, “500 Naira”.
You say, “Haba, na wetin, 250 Naira”.
Seller replies, “350 Naira”.
You insist on “250 Naira”.
Wait for her reply.
If she says, 300 Naira.
You still insist 250 Naira.
Again, wait for her reply. If she wants to sell, she will say come and take it.
Walk away. (This is a common tactic that works in the market)
She will call you back and say, come and pay.
Rule 4 - In Lagos, if you are in the market and you want to buy anything, whatever price they call it, cut it into half.
Rule 5 - Dress down when going to the market. Wear jeans or Ankara and no jewelry.
If you go out with a relative or friend who lives in Nigeria. Don’t speak while they are haggling. Just look and pretend that, what you are buying is not yours.
You will save yourself some cool Naira by following these rules.

Remember, this is Nigeria and it is not UK or the US.
Go into the branch and speak to your Relationship Manager and put this request in writing.
Make sure he or she does this in front of you.
